The story of this home
Donaldville / Llewellyn (29 Albert Street)
Dobroyd painter John McDonald bought the land at 29 Albert Street in May 1902. In 1903 he built a two-storey house of face brick with a tiled roof, moved in, and named it Donaldville.
In October 1912 McDonald sold to railway employee Llewellyn Emlyn Treharne. The Treharnes lived there in 1913 and renamed the house Llewellyn. Later tenants listed in the journal include John McPhee in 1914, Ernest R. Long in 1915–1920, Edgar Taylor in 1923–1924 and Dominic Wells in 1925–1926. Missing directory listings do not establish that the house was vacant.
The journal’s December 1926 transfer sentence names McDonald after describing Treharne’s ownership. That attribution is unresolved here and has not been turned into a timeline event or a new person connection. The later account records a sale by Mrs Treharne to Sydney John Elley and Ellen Jane Elley in October 1949, followed by their sale to Antonio and Mario Aiello in August 1954. In December 1959 Mario’s half-share passed to Giuseppina, Antonio’s wife.
Bruce Crosson’s photograph records part of the frontage and verandah, rather than the whole house. The caption identifies Federation Filigree styling and surviving cast-iron verandah decoration.
