The story of this home
House (20 James Street)
The house at 20 James Street was built in about 1935 on lots 20–22 of the Harbord Estate. It represents the interwar California bungalow style that became popular in Australia after the First World War.
Solomon Mitchell’s photograph shows the low, single-storey frontage, broad gables and substantial verandah piers. The source caption supplies an approximate building date but does not name an owner, architect or builder; those details remain open for further research.
