270 Johnston Street, Annandale NSW 2038
Every home has a story — whether it spans generations or is only just beginning.
The story of this home
Oybin is the historic villa identified by Heritage NSW at 270 Johnston Street. The inventory dates its construction to 1880–1881 and associates architect Charles H. E. Blackmann with its design and early occupation.
Alan Roberts’s 1978 account places a proposed restoration and community use in the narrative of March 1972. He reports that Oybin escaped demolition but that the restoration scheme later failed. His reference to 268–270 Johnston Street concerns that redevelopment site; this entry uses the heritage record’s house address of 270.
The accompanying journal photograph is a shared streetscape dominated by The Abbey. Its caption identifies Oybin’s neighbouring tower or gazebo; it is not a close view of the whole villa.
