Description & Observations

Glebe Rowing Club’s first boatshed at the foot of Ferry Road opened in July 1879 and was destroyed by fire in February 1897. Architect and club member Dick Shute designed its replacement on the same site.

The new clubhouse opened on 12 June 1897, the occasion shown in the journal’s cover photograph. It measured 61 by 28 feet and cost £300. Fire gutted this second boatshed on 1 May 1953. This record concerns that historic building, not the club’s present accommodation.
