Pacific Hotel, Balmain

The Pacific Hotel stood at 4 Stephen Street, Balmain, and was part of the suburb’s nineteenth-century hotel history. Leichhardt Historical Journal No. 17 discusses early development associated with William Joseph Lewis, renovations by Benjamin Bolton in 1885, and further alterations in 1911 that changed the accommodation and street frontage.The photograph reproduced by the journal is captioned 1930. It records the hotel's appearance at that time, but should not be used to infer the building's present condition. The original photograph comes from the Noel Butlin Archives Centre, ANU. This record keeps the photographed building, its former hotel use and later changes distinct.
