Former Rob Roy Hotel

At the corner of Adolphus and Vincent Streets, the former Rob Roy Hotel was associated with the mid-nineteenth-century development of Balmain. It subsequently changed in appearance and use: the historical journal shows the building after its balcony was removed. The hotel ceased trading in 1958, and the former hotel building later served a residential purpose.The journal photograph identifies the former hotel but its capture date is not established. This Community Place entry concerns the former hotel and its site, not an operating modern hotel. The source photograph is credited to the Noel Butlin Archives Centre, ANU, and was reproduced in Leichhardt Historical Journal No. 17.
